Two-Day Closure of York Street at the Railroad Crossing between 40th and 41st Aves

TRAFFIC ALERT

Two-Day Closure of Southbound York Street at the Railroad Crossing between 40th and 41st Avenues to Occur

On June 12, 2016, the Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) contractor for the University of Colorado A Line, Denver Transit Partners (DTP), will continue construction on southbound York Street at the railroad crossing between 40th and 41st avenues. A two-day complete closure of southbound York Street between 40th and 41st avenues at the railroad crossing will occur beginning on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 8 p.m.

During the road closure, northbound traffic movements will not be restricted.

The construction activities will affect the RTD Route 44 bus. For more information on how this will affect the Route 44, please call 303.299.6000 or visit www3.rtddenver.com/elbert/RiderAlerts/index.cfm.

REMINDER: Public Meeting #3 is tonight (38th and Blake Station Area Height Amendments)

The third public meeting in the 38th and Blake Station Area Height Amendments planning process will take place tonight, Tuesday, April 26. Building on input from public meetings #1 and #2, this meeting will focus on refining a preferred building heights alternative while considering other important elements of a great transit-oriented development station area.

About the Amendments:
With the opening of the University of Colorado A Line just months away, the 38th & Blake Station will be the first commuter rail stop from Downtown to the Denver International Airport. Working with stakeholders and members of the community, this effort will refine the vision for building heights in support of transit oriented development.

Crime Report Sgt. Hausner provided update on crime/police activity in March / April

  • Sg. Hauser reported violent was crime down and property crime was up for the period
  • Reported body found in trash can at 33rd & Race is still an ongoing homicide investigation. Preliminary findings do not point to gangs, but not ruled out asked for community input (video footage, eye witnesses, etc.)
  • Recent police activity at 38th High gang related Lockdown at neighborhood school ( anyone know the school? ) was bc a person with a gun was reported( person did not have a not a gun and lockdown was lifted)

Tim Watkins provided an update on the proposed rezoning around the 38 th and Blake Station

  • Property at 3800 Franklin went back to rezoning

  • May final draft preferred alternative; Public hearing mid June; Phase 2 Oct/Nov until the end of the year for rezoning
  • Higher density decreases vehicle trips and decreases length of trips.
  • 20% of attendees at last public meeting lived near station 40% lived or owned property
  • Goal: More ground floor activation
  • Maximizing opportunity around infrastructure(metro rail) transit oriented development
  • Sidewalk, art and signage, lighting and safety
  • Parks and open space (pocket park)
  • Street facing entrance
  • Tapering at 35 stories, with max being 8-12 up to 16
  • Greater density increases (higher buildings permitted) repeatedly received the most votes (if you disagree with this change, please attend 4/26 public feedback meeting)
  • Gilpin and 38th looking west design will be generated for next meeting
  • Discussed exploring parking perm for nearby Cole residents
